Good news for first home buyers… an early Christmas present.
The house price caps for the HomeStart Grant have today been increased making it easier for eligible New Zealanders to buy a new build whether that be a KiwiBuild home or any other new build.
The HomeStart Grant is for up to $20,000 for a couple and goes towards their deposit.
You need to be eligible, but raising the price cap will make this easier to access for a number of people.
No change in Auckland.
Why Has The Price Cap Been Increased?
The Government is trying to ensure that KiwiBuild works.
It is a flagship policy for the current Labour / NZ First / Greens government and it has been struggling. There have been a huge number of teething issues and much of the detail appears have to been done on a reactive and ad-hoc basis.
They need to make sure that KiwiBuild works and the great thing is that benefits a lot of first home buyers.
Access Your HomeStart Grant
People have been accessing the HomeStart Grant to help buy their first home and it can make a considerable difference.
When buying a brand new home you can access up to $10,000 each, and that is free money – it’s a gift from the Government.

As of today, the house price caps for the HomeStart Grant on all new builds in areas outside the main centres are increasing from $450,000 to $500,000 to match the KiwiBuild price cap.
